Electricity grid factors

The same kWh, a different footprint

Electricity from different grids carries different emission factors. The same 10.000 kWh bill is 8,7 ton CO₂eq on the Jamali grid and 16,3 ton on the Khatulistiwa grid in Kalimantan Barat.

  • 0,87kg per kWh on the Jamali grid, covering Java's six provinces
  • 0,60kg per kWh median across all 93 regions
  • 1,63kg per kWh on Khatulistiwa, the highest factor listed

About the numbers

Questions, answered

A quick guide to what the calculator includes and how to read your result.

Who is this calculator for?

It's built for micro, small and medium enterprises that want a first view of their emissions. It was developed in collaboration with GRI and SECO under the Sustainability Reporting for Responsible Business programme.

What does the result include?

Scope 1 covers fuel combustion and refrigerants, Scope 2 covers purchased electricity, and Scope 3 covers purchased paper and cardboard. Each entry is multiplied by its emission factor and reported in tons of CO₂ equivalent.

Is this a full emissions inventory?

No. It is a baseline emission estimate for micro, small and medium enterprises. Sources outside the listed inputs, such as business travel or waste, are not included.

How are trees planted counted?

Trees are converted with a fixed factor per tree or per hectare and shown as a total emission reduction. Your emissions total is not reduced, so both figures stay visible.

Why do some inputs need an account?

Three fuel inputs are open to everyone. Signing in unlocks the remaining fuels, refrigerants, electricity, purchased goods and tree planting, and keeps your saved calculations across devices.
